Door Hardware: Passage, Privacy, and Dummy Sets
Emtek Locks for interior doors come in three different specifications, depending on the intended use. These specifications are called passage, privacy, and dummy, and their purposes are explained below:
Passage Sets
Passage sets are designed for most interior doors- doors that need to operate, but don't need to lock from either side. Passage sets are typically used to connect common-space areas, and also for bedroom doors when locking is not necessary.
Privacy Sets
Privacy sets are similar to passage sets, but with one exception- privacy sets have a lock that works from one side of the hardware. Privacy sets are designed for use on bathroom doors, bedrooms where locks are desired, or any other interior locking doors where a key is not required. For interior doors that require a keyed lock, please inquire about Key-in sets or Plate Locks.
Dummy Sets
Dummy sets are non-operational sets that install on the door surface, and are decorative in nature. Dummy sets are perfect for the outsides of closet doors with a catch, where a functional piece of hardware is not necessary. They are also ideal for double doors where only one set of hardware is used for the door operation. Each dummy set includes hardware for both sides of the door.
